Heat pumps

Production multiplied – nevertheless, delivery times are long: Why heat pumps are in such high demand

Heat pumps are an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating systems. They use energy from the environment to heat and cool buildings, which can significantly contribute to reducing CO2 emissions. It’s no wonder that the production numbers of this modern technology are exploding. In the first three quarters of 2022, they have seen a significant increase. According to the Federal Statistical Office, nearly 243,200 heat pumps were produced, which corresponds to an increase of 48.9% compared to the same period last year. Compared to 2017, the number has more than doubled (up by 132.9%).

There are different types of heat pumps, including air-to-water, ground-to-water, and water-to-water heat pumps. One of the biggest advantages of heat pumps is their efficiency. They can generate up to four times more energy than they consume, resulting in significant savings in heating costs. Additionally, heat pumps are low-maintenance and have a long lifespan.

Another important consideration is German legislation, which requires new installations to have a renewable share of at least 65% from 2024. This has significant implications for the type of heating systems that can be installed in new buildings. Heating systems based on fossil fuels such as gas or oil will no longer be allowed, further increasing the demand for heat pumps in the future.

Heat pumps also make a positive contribution to climate change. By using renewable energy, they can help reduce CO2 emissions and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. This is an important step in mitigating climate change and preserving the planet for future generations.

However, the increased demand has led to longer delivery times, as demand currently exceeds supply. It can take up to six months to get a heat pump, requiring careful planning if you want to install a new heating system.

Overall, heat pumps are an excellent choice for environmentally conscious consumers who want to save energy and costs. With increasing demand and the growing importance of renewable energy, heat pumps will play an important role in the future.
